Howdy folks, got a recap of the awesome insanity that was Crimson Screen Horror Film Festival!

Left to right: Shannon Moyer (Santa Claus), Hope Bikle (Kelly Enck), Mike Lombardo, Kevin Foster, Dylan Stern-Courney (director of photography), Thelma Lombardo

The Reel Splatter convoy make the 11 hour trek to Charleston, South Carolina last weekend for a screening of I’m Dreaming of a White Doomsday and holy shit was it worth it! First off, Tommy Faircloth and Robert Zobel know how to run a fest! They went out of their way to make everyone feel welcome and to celebrate their films. Crimson Screen is all about the filmmakers and it was a blast. We spent 4 days hanging out with some super cool and extremely talented filmmakers, we saw so many amazing movies, most notably the horror video game streaming themed feature, LiveScream directed by Michelle Iannantuono, which took home the Jury Award as well as runner up for Audience Choice. It’s doing its rounds on the fest circuit now so do yourself a favor and track down a screening, you won’t regret it! White Doomsday won Best Feature and our leading lady Hope Bikle snagged her 2nd Best Actress award.

One of the highlights of the award ceremony was Mark Patton (of Nightmare on Elm Street 2 fame) presenting them, so that was a surreal and wonderful moment. We also received nominations for Best Screenplay, Best Cinematography, Best Director, and Best FX. Not bad, right? And as if all this wasn’t cool enough, we made a little detour on the way to the fest and visited Statesville, North Carolina which is where the the awesome 1989 horror comedy, The Boneyard was filmed! If you haven’t seen it, its a whacked out though mostly serious flick about a trio of child ghouls wreaking very slimy and gore drenched havoc through a morgue. It also features Phyllis Diller as the infamous Ms. Poopinplatz and a fucking giant poodle monster!

Code Red just released a beautifully restored blu ray of it that’s packed with extras and its only $15 on amazon, so grab it while you can!

We also have some awesome news for our friends in the frozen north! We have another stop on the Winter Wasteland Tour, White Doomsday is coming to the Toronto Indie Horror Festival! It will be playing August 31st at 9pm.
